Revivals Begin With God’s People

“Revivals begin with God’s own people; the Holy Spirit touches their heart anew, and gives them new fervor and compassion, and zeal, new light and life, and when He has thus come to you, He next goes forth to the Valley of Dry Bones…

Oh, what responsibility this lays on the Church of God! If you grieve Him away from yourselves, or hinder His visit, then the poor perishing world suffers sorely!”

  1. Dennis, I’ve got to think about this one….Does that mean if revival doesn’t come that we, the people of God, are at fault or responsible? If so, then we should be on our knees……till the Holy Spirit comes to us.

  2. David, In the history of revivals ALL of them have begun with God’s People. God works in his people, bringing them to conviction and repentance… As God has worked in his people to then love their neighbors conversions occur.

I suspect most Christians erroneously assume, when (if) they pray for revival, that God will work in the unbelieveing world. But God always begins with his own people first.

Check out Iain Murray’s Revival & Revivalism, or one of many other works on this subject.

  3. I’ll check out that book. Thanks, but we need to pray, and then pray and pray some more.
That God will deal with us, his people…
