Our Great Shepherd

“The Lord’s my shepherd – I shall not be in want.”

(Psalm 23.1)

I am completely satisfied with his management of my life.  Why? Because He is the sheepman to whom no trouble is too great as He cares for His flock.  He is the rancher who is outstanding because of His fondness for sheep – Who loves them for their own sake as well as his personal pleasure in them.  He will, if necessary, be on the job twenty-four hours a day to see that they are properly provided for in every detail.  Above all, He is very jealous of His name and high reputation as ‘The Good Shepherd’.

  1. Your post reminded me of my reflecting on Ps 23 this past weekend. As I read the words “though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,” it struck me that I have only thought of this as some sort of external malevolent threat. And while sheep are often under threat, sometimes they just get themselves in a jam. I had never thought about the Lord as one to calm my fears in the valley of the shadow of death (jam) of my own making… He comes to walk me out of the valley, either way. He is the Good Shepherd.

  2. …and even if He doesn’t walk us out of our circumstance (jam) but allows us to suffer for a season, He is still the Good Shepherd…

This can be difficult as are many circumstance of life is not easy, I believe God is always present and a provider of help and assurance. (For me it doesn’t always feel that way however)
